Do I need a specific type of VOIP phone system?

Different SIP providers are certified to work with various IP phone system manufactures. Some IP phone system manufactures require additional equipment to operate. Check with an Access Technologies representative to determine if your phone system is certified.

A VoIP Cost analysis: Compare your current telecomm costs with SIP, Part 2

These are the steps that I use to prepare a VoIP cost analysis for prospective customers. The numbers it generates are very rough but do make a great starting point for further discussion.

A VoIP Cost analysis: Compare your current telecomm costs with SIP, Part 1

We’ve talked quite a bit about the cost savings associated with SIP and IP Telephony. It’s understood that the integration of a VOIP business phone systems and the right VOIP provider is a powerful combination that leads to substantial savings, better communication tools, and increased organizational efficiencies.

General intro to SIP, VoIP, and internet phone systems (Part 2)

This post is part 2 of a 2-part series. Part 1 was posted on Tuesday.
I’ve been on the technical side of telephony for more than 15 years now – beginning in tactical military communications and phone systems. As you can imagine, I’ve seen incredible changes occur with IP telephony, business phone systems, and VOIP in general. This blog post will give our readers a high-level introduction to VOIP technology and how it has evolved to where it is today. I figure the best way to do this is to give you a glimpse of my own journey down the business telephone systems and VOIP technology road. Note that this might not be an accurate depiction of the history of the telephone system; this is simply my own experience.

Inflow continues to assist local hospitals migrate to Unified Communications

Inflow has just designed and implemented the network infrastructure for Klickitat Valley Health in Goldendale. The impetus behind the project was to prepare their network for the ShoreTel VOIP phone system we’re installing this month. The current network was comprised of disparate, antiquated, non-POE switches. Our engineering team designed and deployed a fully-managed, fully-survivable, VOIP-ready network architecture with Adtran switches and routers.

Does placing SIP calls over the Internet cause quality issues?

With SIP trunks, voice gets converted into IP packets. These IP packets then get sent to the SIP provider (and vice versa). Because voice is real-time sensitive, it requires that the voice packets arrive within a certain amount of time and in the right order (along with a number of other factors like jitter, packet loss, etc). If some of the voice packets get dropped or if they are sent too slow, audible quality issues can occur. So the quality of the connection between the customer’s phone system and the SIP provider directly affects the quality of the call.

What security features are offered with SIP trunks?

This depends on the SIP provider. Broadvox can implement SIP trunks over a dedicated or VPN-enabled connection. Actually, it’s much harder for somebody to intercept a VOIP call than a traditional PRI or analog call.
